Dr. Mary J. Egan graduated in 1992 from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. At graduation she received three prestigous awards: The Oral Medicine Award, The Pediatric Care Award and The Public Health in Dentistry Award for her work with migrant children at an intership in rural Colorado during her senior year. Her undergraduate training was at the University of Wisconsin and Marquette University (in Milwaukee, WI) where she received her bachelors degree in Health Sciences in 1988. Her early undergraduate training also included 3 years of nursing school. Even as a high school student, she volunteered many hours helping at a local hospital in her hometown of Appleton, Wisconsin. Her love of people and genuine, caring manner made her gravitate towards a career in health care. After graduation from dental school in 1992, Dr. Egan worked in a busy family practice in Boulder, Colorado alongside the well-respected Dr. Willis V. Kittleman, who was the President of the Colorado Dental Association. During these years, she took many hours of continuing education courses: from pediatric care to dental implants, to expand her dental skills. She married Dr. James Egan in 1993, and eventually joined him in a dental practice outside of Denver, Colorado. Their practice focused on comprehensive dentistry for the entire family. Dr. Mary Egan provided dental care to the children in the practice. They enjoyed the beautiful Colorado lifestyle - skiing, hiking and racing sailboats in their free time. After over ten years in Colorado, they decided to pursue a lifelong dream and move to Florida, so her husband could competitively race sailboats. The Egan's relocated to beautiful Sarasota, Florida in 2002 with their two year old daughter, Madelyne. Soon after settling in, they welcomed another daughter, Lauren in August of 2002. Due to her love of children, Dr. Mary Egan decided to focus her practice on pediatric dental care. She completed a year long Pediatric Mini-Residency at The University of Florida in Gainesville in 2005. The Egan family grew again in 2007 when they welcomed a third daughter, Ashley. During the past five years, she has been providing pediatric dental care to thousands of children in Bradenton and Lakewood Ranch. Her husband, Jim, maintains a general dental practice in Venice, Florida. In their free time the Egan family enjoys the incredible outdoor lifestyle in Florida - sailing, fishing and enjoying the beaches. Dr. Mary Egan joined The Center for Premier Dentistry in Jan. '09 to provide pediatric dental care to children in the Sarasota area. She is very gentle and caring, and strives to make each child feel comfortable in a dental setting. Her practice focuses on children age 1-16 years old. She encourages parents to bring in their 1 year old children for good preventive care starting at an early age. She strongly believes in preventive dental care to help avoid dental disease: such as cavities, gingivitis, and dental infections. Children that need dental treatment can have nitrous gas, tv or music headphones, and other amenities to make their experience easier. Dr. Egan is trained in growth and development of the oral structures, so that she can monitor developing malocclusion (bites) in the elementary school ages, for possible early intervention with appliances. She is committed to providing excellent dental care to your children. Dr. Mary Egan strives to be sure each child is treated with professional, gentle care! |
