Dr. Scott C. Dickinson, D.M.D., is a 1998 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia. While in dental school, Dr. Dickinson was on full Army Health  Professional Scholarship. Nationwide, only seven candidates receive this honor. At graduation, faculty recognized him with Colgate's Excellence in Restorative Dentistry Award. From there he pursued a residency in advanced education in general dentistry (AEGD) at Evans Community Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado. During his residency, Dr. Dickinson focused his training in comprehensive dentistry by concentrating on the surgical placement of implants, endodontics, sedation techniques, pediatrics and cosmetic dental care.Upon graduation from his residency, Scott was selected as one of the first five dentists ever to attend Flight Surgeon's School. This training positioned him to become Battalion Flight Surgeon and Dentist for the Tenth Aviation Battalion in Ft. Drum, New York. Here, Dr. Dickinson spent his next two years treating patients and flying Medi-Vac operations. During this time, Dr. Dickinson also elected to participate in a humanitarian effort that provided pediatric dental care for the underprivileged children of Costa Rica. He is wonderful with children! Upon leaving the Army, he returned to Philadelphia, where he accepted a position as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Oral Medicine Department at his alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. Here, he worked with patients and students to teach the care of medically complex dental patients. While teaching at Penn, Dr. Dickinson also established himself in a cosmetic and comprehensive care dental practice, where he was inspired to modify oral sedation techniques and teach these revised methods to other dental professionals. His experience with treating the medically complex patient coupled with his extensive knowledge of oral sedation techniques is now available to all of our patients as an added assurance and comfort. Dr. Dickinson's dental expertise lies in the areas of full-mouth restorative dentistry, extraordinary cosmetic dental work, Invisalign invisible orthodontics, pediatric dental care and oral sedation for optimal comfort. Not only is Dr. Dickinson an exceptional dentist, he is accomplished in the specialty areas of dentistry that will make your care at our office more convenient. Originally from Syracuse, New York, Dr. Dickinson and his wife, Kara, now enjoy everything about Sarasota and look forward to raising their two children in the sun, fun and surf.
